Style Crush Features: Peace Amadi

It's my first blog feature for the year 2014 and it's a style feature of the super-hot, super-smart, super- stylish Peace Amadi! I found her a few months ago and I just had to ask her to be featured on Fola's Oasis.

Please introduce yourself! What do you do?
Hey y'all! My name is Peace Amadi and I’m currently a psychology professor at a university in Southern California, the co-founder and director of The Ruby Project – a non-profit for girls with stories of abuse and trauma – and of course a blogger!

Tell us a bit about your blog and why you started blogging.

My blog “The Pink Couch Blog” is a place where women can come for style ideas and beauty advice, but also to be encouraged, empowered, and challenged to pursue one’s best life. As a mental health expert (I have a doctorate in clinical psychology), I’m especially interested in women being emotionally healthy, happy, and whole. I always say what’s the point of looking good on the outside if on the inside, you’re a mess? Our clothes and makeup should only reflect our inner wholeness, not attempt to replace it.

What are 5 fashion items (clothes, shoes, accessories, etc.) that describe your personal style?

Any skirt or dress with a vintage silhouette. Blazers. Denim (chambray) tops. Statement pants. Rings. Converse. And beanies and crew neck sweaters for lazy days. Wait, that’s more than 5. My style is all over the place!

Please share about 2 or 3 style tips that you think would help people improve their style.

1. Don’t be afraid of color! Red, yellow, green, fuchsia, royal blue – these colors make a statement. They say you are bold, confident, fun, flirty, feminine, etc. People are constantly reading and assessing you. Have a say in what they see by making strong statements with your style.

2. Get a little funky. Sometimes I will go into a store and ask myself “what’s the funkiest thing I can find here? Then I’ll try it on with bunch of other items and see how I can make that item wearable in my everyday life. You can make most anything work if you rock it with confidence.

What advice do you have for low-budget fashion lovers?

Thrift stores, consignment stores, and vintage stores. Shop them! You can look just as stylish as the next person, if not more, by shopping these low cost options. In fact some of the pieces I’ve gotten the most compliments on have been from these kinds of stores. And some of these pieces are some of my most quality pieces too. If you ask me, they just don’t make clothes like they used to. The women’s fashion of the 40s, 50s, and even the 80’s continues to inspire me and I can find pieces that belong, or look like they belong to these decades in these stores.

What are your top 3 fave fashion stores or brands?

That’s hard. I shop everywhere. But my current go-to’s are probably thrift & vintage stores, H&M, and

What else would you like us to know about you?

Besides fashion, a few of my favorite things would have to be macaroons, bright lipsticks, chuck taylors, and riding my bike at the beach!

Where can one find or follow you on the web?

My blog of course:

I mean you gotta love Peace's style...the very last pic, right above, is actually our African lace material made into a skirt, and did you see that green ankara dress, accessorized with a blazer and the CUTEST vintage bag I have ever seen! And the very first pic too; perfection.
